Next month, the United States will have a new president. There are 6 days until election, and with new scandals every day, everything feels a bit like a surreal and dystopic. Add to that the colder weather, the shorter days, and some long days in the office (hence my relative silence – as much as I’ve been wanting to blog I just haven’t had the time), October has been a tiresome month and I’m looking forward to a November spent with more family (I’ll be flying off to California to see some family and friends) and with more time to write (outside of work.) I have, however, come across some great reading from all corners of the internet, and have been playing the same two tunes over, and over, and over again.
So here’s this month’s menu. Apologies for the absence of beauty, I’ll have a post rounding up my new favorites very soon.

- Quartz, a “digital global business news publication” has been KILLING IT with their content. Their writers are smart, their angle is sharp, and their articles are always interesting and thought provoking. This month in particular: The case for why men should wear makeup, Chimamanda Adichie says Beyonce’s kind of feminism isn’t her kind of feminism, and The conservative politics of thinness. Oh, and women spend an average of 160 million more hours on house chores than men.
- This short animated film made by two Pixar employees during their “free time” made me weep at work.
- A really beautifully written article in the New Yorker about how street names reflect a male landscape, and what streets would sound like if they were named after famous women.
- The New H&M commercial has gotten a LOT of buzz for having an intersectional representation of women, but don’t fall for it.
- This piece brings a frightening issue to light: young women in Japan are routinely forced into porn.
- A good exercise: can you read this story without getting distracted?
- This website makes it easy to find brands that seek to do good (though not all of them are cruelty free).
